At Backup Express we take security very seriously.

We go to great lengths to protect your data against loss, and to keep it from falling into the wrong hands.

Physical Server Security:

We house our servers in one of Brisbane's best and most secure DataCentres. This provides a host of benefits:

- Armed guard at the entry. Building goes into complete lockdown outside business hours.

- Swipe card access to server rooms.

- Building has dual power feeds from two separate substations.

- Building is equipped with diesel generators for use during failure of both power feeds.

- All equipment is powered via Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS).

- Server rooms feature redundant air-conditioning systems and Very Early Smoke Detection Alarms.

Protection against Un-Authorised Data Access:

- Your data files are encrypted before they leave your office using the latest high-strength Blowfish and AES encryption algorithms.

- Your files remain encrypted at all times on our system. They only time the are decrypted is at your machine during a restore.

- Even our recovery DVDs and Rapid Restore Disks store the data in its encrypted state.

- The encryption key is known only to yourself and to our staff. 

- If your data is particularly sensitive you can choose your own secret encryption key, and you do not need to give us your secret encryption key.  Then not even our staff can access your data. (Of course, if you lose your secret encryption key, we will be completely unable to help you regain access to your data).

Protection against Server Malfunction:

- Our servers are built for performance and reliability. Our Primary Server and our Secondary Backup utilise enterprise-level components, including Error-Correcting (E.C.C.) Memory.  RAID-5 Disk Arrays with Hot-Spares are used to protect against hard disk drive failure .

- Our servers perform Automatic Archiving. When you backup to our Primary Server, a backup copy of your data is transferred to our Secondary Backup in real time. Not at the end of the day, or at the weekend, but immediately. Our Secondary Backup maintains a unique archiving system that allows us to restore any data on the Primary Server to its last known state, or to any of a number of snapshots from previous days and weeks.
